Trio Fasteners began in 1991, when Ron and Vance Hopkins decided to pool their resources and open a fastener and industrial supply distributorship in the Ashland, VA area.

Ron had been a branch manager for a large Southeastern fastener distributor, and Vance was a vice president of Green Top Sporting Goods - a major Mid-Atlantic sporting goods retailer. Vance continued to work at Green Top, and Ron became president of Trio Fasteners, Inc.

Hanover County lacked an industrial fastener distributor and the Hanover Industrial Air Park seemed a logical place to locate this new venture. Five thousand feet of warehouse space was located, and Trio opened its doors on June 3, 1991.

Three of Ron's co-workers at his old employer agreed to become a part of the new venture. Doug Preston, Clarence Nowlin, and Kenny Ferrell formed the core of Trio, and actually were the inspiration for the company's name. Moving forward in fits and starts, Trio made a major advance when it gained a large customer in the fall of 1991, and a long period of growth began.

1996 was an important year for Trio, when the decision was made by Ron and Vance to purchase a building. Trio moved into its permanent quarters in March of '96 and enjoys an excellent location within sight of the runway in the Air Park. The 12,000 square foot warehouse is perfectly suited to Trio's business methods, with spacious offices and a well designed and lighted storage area for nearly $500,000 in inventory. Also in '96, Conde, Ron's wife retired from her twenty two year teaching career to come to work full time as administrator.

From humble beginnings, Trio has grown into a well-known and highly regarded supplier of a wide line of construction products in Central Virginia. Trio has been a faithful contributor to a variety of community causes, from donations to the Red Cross after 9-11 and Katrina, to hosting the area Girl Scouts annual cookie distribution, to giving a $1,000 scholarship annually to a graduating senior at Patrick Henry High School - where Ron, Conde, Vance and his wife Susan graduated, as well as Ron and Conde's sons Ryan and Haden, and Vance and Susan's daughter, Ann.

In addition to Ron, Clarence, and Conde, Ricky Hall, Wayne Stanley, and John Harris comprise Trio's current staff.

Trio Fasteners, Inc will continue to provide timely, cost-effective and quality products to the commercial and industrial construction, and maintainence community. We encourage you to call us.
